![]() Hayley Scilini lives and works in Tasmania. She has successfully completed a BA Fine Arts (painting) and a Master of Fine Arts (by Coursework) at RMIT University, graduating with distinction in both degrees. In 2010 she was a recipient of the RMIT Siemens Fine Art Travelling Scholarship, and in 2011 won a $1000 non-acquisitive prize from Metro Gallery for her installation in the MFA Graduate Exhibition.
Her work is largely concerned with the exploration of colour through geometric abstraction. She is interested in colours ability to convey energy, movement and spatial ambiguity. Her bold paintings make use of high-key contrasting colours, diagonal lines and skewed perspective to create vibrational intensity and a dynamic shifting of space within the picture plane. An integral part of her painting practice, Scilini often creates large-scale painting installations in galleries and public spaces. Through these works she aims to create an exaggerated experience of colour in order that one may become aware of the phenomenological and relational aspects of colour and its potential to affect our perceptions of space. Her most recent paintings have been derived from a series of collages, where documentation images of older studio works are cut up and reassembled using a grid system in order to further disrupt and confound pictorial space. |
